SEO Takes Time

clockIn the not too distant past, creating SEO content that worked – and worked quite quickly – was fairly simple. All you had to do was have web content created with the keywords relevant to your particular business, and as long as the competition wasn’t too fierce, you were bound to succeed. Typically, this meant creating a list of up to 10 “golden keywords” and you could almost count on traffic finding you.

Times Have Changed

While this process of SEO content creation may have once worked, the times have changed, and so has the way in which the vast majority of people who use the various search engines. This has led to major changes in the algorithms services like Google, Bing, and Yahoo to rank websites and place them on the first page.

Today’s web users tend to use more natural language when typing in their search requirements. This makes it much harder for web content developers to create content that is likely to be found in the search engines bases on this concept. However, at the same time, it also means that the “typical” ranking system that used to be so important is no longer quite as relevant.

While you still need content that will move your site to the top of the list, you need to find an SEO firm whose goal is not so much focused on the outcome or ranking of your site, but is instead focused on the output of your site (generation of sales and leads).

Successful SEO Takes Time and Hard Work

Where once the average SEO company could create successful SEO content within a few days or weeks simply based on finding that set of “golden keywords” and putting together your website, the process can now take several months. The first month is used mainly for research, auditing your website, planning your keyword strategy (yes keywords are still an important part of your strategy), and discovering what will work.

During the second month, your SEO company will start doing the technical work on your website, making any necessary changes based on the information found during the audit. Minor changes may only take a few days, but extensive rebuilding of your website may take several months to accomplish. During this phase, you may not see any noticeable differences in your traffic, but they will come soon enough.

Constant Creation

Once your website has been updated to meet the required SEO standards, the real work begins. This means continuously creating relevant content designed to draw traffic to your site. This is an ongoing process, and as the content continues to be added, you will finally begin to see an increase in traffic. This increase goes to show that your patience (along with finding a quality SEO company) are going to pay off.

Another important element is getting genuine, quality links to your website. Quick tactics tend not to work well, don’t last, and in the worst case can get your site penalized. Spending time getting genuine links, through PR and other means, will build your site’s authority over the long haul, and will be extremely beneficial for increasing traffic.

The average SEO company should let you know that it will take several months to start seeing the effects of their work. However, once you have started down the right path, you should see continually improving results over the coming months and years.
